Ten cinematics that you must see:

I already posted this one, but it was right at the top of the list anyway. Really gets you into the story and it only gets better from there.

Amazing music, amazing cinema. Although compiled mostly from other clips throughout the game, it still does more than enough justice to what your about to see.

This game I actually purely played for the cinematic, the game play was a little to slow and boring for me to really get into, but an amazing game nonetheless.

If the first words on the screen didn’t grab you, the next 5 minutes will.

Classic, awesome, epic, you can say a lot of things about it, and this only started it.

Though the game itself could drag at times, the opening cinematic was as beautiful as it was graphically ahead of its time.

I chided myself a little for putting this one here, its a little corny and the animator from dragon ball, but I really feel he caught the scene incredibly well.

Oh yeah. If that isn’t awesome then what is. This isn’t the actual intro, but rather the cinematic opening to the story.

If you watch any of these videos, please by god watch this one. Not only being one of the few things I have shed tears over, it is probably the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in a video game. This one sequence of course does the game itself no justice, but its important that you see THIS version of it here and now, because they BUTCHERED it on the remake for PSP. I think a future posting may involve an analysis on this particular cinematic and how game remakes never really work out.

EDIT by Ryan.  And here’s the Skies of Arcadia intro too.  Dun da da dun dun dun da da da!

I totally missed skies but I was looking more for cinematics. This opening is actually in game footage, which I think artistically makes it a little more ingenious, since they only had the in game models to work with, and the oh so excellent sound guys. None of this fancy-smancy animation for them!

Yeah unfortunately there are only 2 pre-rendered scenes in Skies, and they’re both dumb (Red Gigas coming out of sand and Zelos emerging). They just did them because the Dreamcast couldn’t handle the geometry in a camera angle that wide.

Learn new things everyday. I really couldn’t even tell that those were pre-rendered. I’ll have to go back and take a look.
